Presidiology


The Presidio in San Francisco presents wonderful vistas for parkgoers, city visitors, and outdoorsy people of all ages. The Presidio is also our potential site for Silver Sun: Illuminating the Spendor of the Silent Screen presented by COCA Center for Outdoor Contemporary Art

Silver Sun is an innovative place-making project that celebrates the power of silent cinema through a brilliant stained-glass arc designed by Scotland-based artist, Emma Butler-Cole Aiken in collaboration with COCA Center for Outdoor Contemporary Art

Visitors of all ages are invited to discover the rustic charm of the historic Presidio of San Francisco while marveling at this sunlit sculptural beacon with illuminated iconic moments from the silent screen's illustrious age. Free educational materials and historical presentations will be offered throughout, including an ongoing screening of new silent films created by Contemporary Artists from around the globe

Through a refreshing synthesis of art, technology, and nature, Silver Sun quietly unveils a captivating new world of fresh possibilities for film and outdoor spaces, while casting a prismatic light onto the timeless wonders of cinema's golden legacy!
